The “RecPlus Division” is administered by SMYS and includes teams from Waldorf SC, SMYS, CSA, and SMNSL. SMYS, SMNSL and CSA have been participating in this program for several years with boys/co-ed and girls RecPlus teams ranging from U8 – U14. Waldorf SC currently fields two U8 co-ed teams for the Fall 2010 – Spring 2011, the Waldorf Fury and Waldorf Force. Waldorf SC is considering plans for future expansion of its participation with the program.
The RecPlus Program is focused on player development, discovery and creativity over winning and losing in a fun, low-cost, competitive environment. The Program provides experienced coaches with a minimum of four seasons coaching in the Recreational Program and with at least an E-license. The RecPlus teams stay together for a full year, allowing players to develop chemistry with one another and allowing coaches the ability to introduce more advanced concepts. In the fall and spring seasons, the teams generally participate in pre-season scrimmages, an eight (8) game regular season (4 home games and 4 away games), and a post-season, single elimination tournament. In addition, the teams participate in the Kohl’s Cup 4v4 tournament in the Fall and train indoors during the winter and compete in local futsal leagues.
The Program has successfully served as a gateway for players to matriculate into higher level travel/select soccer. Of the 13 children that paricipated in the inaugural year of the program, 11 were selected to play on U9 travel teams and the remaining 2 were underaged players that were selected to return to their U8 RecPlus team.
The buzz about the success of Waldorf SC’s RecPlus Program is spreading. The Club continues to receive inquiries from parents from all over Southern Maryland, which bodes well for the future success of the RecPlus Program.
