Waldorf SC MASTER SCHEDULE
Spring 2012
The spring 2012 schedule is currently under developement. Check back later for more details.
How in the world can we NOT be playing games today; it is sunny and 75 degrees outside? Why are our games still ON; it is raining and 45 degrees outside?
I thought I would give you a bit of background on the philosophy and process the Club goes through with the Charles County Parks and Recreation Division every day we are scheduled to play our games, whether at Bryantown, or elsewhere.
The county is the SOLE decision-making authority as to whether all the game fields are open or closed. Each game-play date, either the Club President or one of the Vice Presidents meets the county at Bryantown, usually before 6:00AM on Saturdays and Sundays, and walks EACH of the fields with them. The condition of each field is observed and a decision is made by the county, taking into account a number of factors (i.e. number of games to play, expected forecast, current field saturation, etc). Contrary to what many people think, the decision on whether or not to play our games is NOT based upon the current, outside weather conditions. The primary factor in the decision-making process is the FIELD SATURATION. This is why you may see SOME of the fields closed and SOME of the fields open on a given game play date. The weather outside may, indeed, be 80 degrees and sunny with the palm trees waving in the wind. But, what about the fact that the evening before, the entire Southern Maryland peninsula was inundated by strong thunderstorms (yes, we have a rain gauge at Bryantown). Hope this helps.
