The Waldorf Soccer Club is continuing a program to invigorate and grow travel team soccer in Charles County. There are close to 1,000 soccer players registered with the Waldorf SC and an additional 300 playing at the higher level travel team soccer.
Our primary goal in travel team soccer is player development and to place players on teams that are consistent with their skill level and desire to learn. Player’s skill levels and desires change as they mature. To accommodate these various skill levels, our intent is to have at least 1 boys team and 1 girls team playing intermediate soccer in each age group and 1 NCSL team and 1 WAGSL team playing in each age group.
Many players and parents shy away from travel team soccer because of misconceptions of travel requirements. In general, select teams play a 9 game schedule in the fall and a 9 game schedule in the spring. Half of the games are played at home in the Waldorf area and half the games are away. Most travel teams play at least one tournament in the spring and one in the fall. Most of these tournaments are played within 50 miles of the I-495 beltway, though not always. Most of our travel teams also play an indoor version of soccer in the Waldorf area during the winter months.
For our travel (also known as select) teams that do not have tryouts listed, please check the BBSL, CMSSL, MPSL, NCSL and WAGSL listed teams on our website (under the "travel team pages" link on the Club home page) for contact information. Coaches are always seeking dedicated players looking to play at a higher level of soccer. If you can’t find a coach or a team in your age group, please contact the Waldorf Soccer Club Travel Representative (under the "Contact Board Members" link on the Club home page).
The Waldorf Soccer Club develops travel teams beginning at age 8 to play in five primary leagues:
BBSL - Baltimore Beltway Soccer League (an intermediate league for boys teams and girls across various age groups from 9-18 years old)
CMSSL – Central Maryland Select Soccer League (an intermediate league for boys teams and girls teams at the younger age groups U-8 and U-9.)
MPSL – Maryland Premier Soccer League (an intermediate league for boys and girls teams across various age groups from 9-16 years old.)
NCSL – National Capital Soccer League (one of our Nation’s most prestigious leagues for boys teams ages U-9 to U-19). Teams are placed in divisions 1 – 6 based on skill level. All soccer clubs participating in the NCSL must reside within 50 miles of the I-495 Beltway.
WAGSL – Washington Area Girls Soccer League (one of our Nation’s most prestigious leagues for girls teams ages U-9 to U-19). WAGSL is structured similar to the NCSL.
We want to identify those players (and parents) who aspire to train and play soccer at a skill level considerably above recreational soccer. We are here to help you along the way.
See you on the Pitch!
